Bicentennial Parade 1989
Jean-Paul Goude is a french illustrator, graphic designer, photographer and a advertising film directer. During the 1970’s he worked as the art director for Esquire magazine and also choreographed the Bicentennial Parade in Paris to mark the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution.
Alongside his other titles, he released a book which was released in 2005 named “Tout Goude” which was a book containing some of his photographs and illustrations such as:

It is a very unique image as he took the photo and then cut the image up and then stuck it back, in a purposely inaccurate way to give it that messy feel to it.
Jean had multiple pieces in a similar style:

The one on the right was a album cover for the pop singer Grace Jones who he worked closely with during the 1980’s called “Slave to the rhythm“.

Including brands with well known big companies such as Kenzo, Chanel and Citroën.

Throughout the years, Jean has worked in various different aspects; as mentioned, he worked for Esquire Magazine– he was asked by the editor of the magazine, Harold Hayes, to work on a special edition in celebration of the 75th issue of the magazine and was then offered a job as a full-time editor.
Goude worked with Grace Jones; a pop singer, who was a model beforehand. Throughout the years the pair worked closely together, he directed her music videos and designed her album covers and even choreographed her live performances.
In 1983, he published a book called “Jungle Fever” which includes many photographs he has taken, a large portion of his work consisted of women of colour who he used different techniques to manipulate their image, such as the one’s above where the image is split up and re-stuck onto the original image to give it a rustic look to it.

Goude also worked with Kim Kardashian during 2014 for Paper Magazine where he did a shoot, recreating one of his earlier works called “Carolina Beaumont” where a woman posed with a bottle of wine with the foam entering a glass on her rear end. This photo of the Kardashian was said to “break the internet” due the large amount of attention it attracted.

During 1992 Jean filmed a commercial for Chanel where he had model Vanessa Paradis pose with her head in a bird cage as he claimed she looked like Tweety. He also did some print campaigns.
